Get To Know Us
Managing Director
Welfaux Managing Director, Chris, has worked at Welfaux since 2014, starting out in Sales.
Just because his dad is Managing Director does not mean that Chris moved straight to the top, and similarly to his father’s journey, Chris has worked his way up through the ranks which has given him experience in various parts of the business. Chris was awarded the position of Director in 2021, leaving his previous position as Operations Coordinator, which is his proudest moment yet during his time at Welfaux.
Along with Richard, Chris is responsible for the day-to-day running of the business – with Richard more focused on the service side of things, while Chris is more sales oriented. Despite being the Managing Director, Chris gets involved in pretty much anything and everything and is always happy to muck in and do whatever he can to help the rest of the team.
Chris’s favourite thing about Welfaux MH is the team – There is a diverse range of characters and personalities, yet everyone gets along which creates a real family feel to the company. “I’ve worked hard to build a good culture and we want people to enjoy coming to work. Hopefully I’ve succeeded in that and paved the way for the company to grow even more in the next couple of years.”
Director
Andy is our Director and has been working at Welfaux since nearly the very start in 1986! Following in the footsteps of his father, Andy started work at Welfaux as a salesman, moving from his career in IT. Since then he has worked his way up through the ranks to Service Manager, Service Director and finally, took over from his father as Managing Director when he retired on 1st January 2000.
Andy always knew that he wanted to take over from his father, having grown up around the industry, his dad having been in the forklift industry for as long as he can remember. It makes Andy proud to know that he has filled his fathers shoes, and that his son, Chris, has now taken over as Managing Director himself, keeping Welfaux in the family.
Andy truly enjoys coming into work and spending time with the team. Although he has seen the company expand and develop significantly since he started, the same friendly, supportive environment that Welfaux was founded on still exists.
Andy’s day-to-day tasks include everything from finance and sales, to helping out on the service side. Most recently he has been busy planning the Welfaux HQ extension, which will hopefully be coming soon!
Director
One of the most experienced people in the industry (let alone our company), Richard Blagden joined Welfaux in July 1989 and has been in the forklift industry since 1987; an impressive 36 years and counting! Richard is our Operations Director, using his vast experience to manage and interact in every part of the business and the day-to-day running of the company. He thoroughly enjoys being able to interact with the whole team at Welfaux and negotiating the juggling act of what we do, be it fixing, selling or organising anything to do with the business to make it work as efficiently as possible.
Richard has had some fantastic achievements throughout his years at Welfaux. He started at Welfaux as a service engineer before going into sales and being part of the team that secured a contract to supply 40+ forklift trucks to DHL Global Forwarding. Additionally, Richard was promoted to a Director of the company in 2015, as recognition for his longstanding commitment to the company.
His favourite product we sell at Welfaux is the Mitsubishi GRENDIA; the best engine-powered truck on the market. He notes, “It is driver friendly, extremely fuel-efficient and practically bulletproof. Of course, we are all heading towards electric power nowadays and the Mitsubishi EDiA electric range of forklift trucks is proving to be every bit as good as the Mitsubishi engine-powered range.”
Engineering Manager
Matt joined the team back in April 2014.
Job Title: Workshop Manager – responsible for managing all engineering works within the workshop and ensuring health and safety standards are always adhered to
Before joining Welfaux MH, Matt had never even touched a forklift, which is hard to believe now! Starting out in the workshop, Matt assisted with helping to fix forklifts, diagnosing mechanical problems and undertaking repairs so the equipment could be back in action as quickly as possible!
Matt really enjoys a challenge and likes that he can take something old and fix it to bring it back to life. In addition to that, he also loves the ‘bants’ with the rest of the team – “It’s a really friendly atmosphere and when you enjoy your work and the people you work with it makes you really look forward to coming to work!”
An interesting fact about Matt is that he enjoys making things out of recycled materials. He has created a Lamp out of forklift parts, which stands proudly in our Welfaux foyer. Be sure to swing by Welfaux HQ to see Matt’s creation!

Case Study
One of the most cherished milestones in our company’s history is the enduring partnership between Welfaux and John Lewis, a relationship that has flourished for an impressive 36 years and counting. Our founder, Trevor Welsher, takes immense pride in this collaboration, which began in 1989 with the supply of a Still R50-15 forklift truck to support the opening of a local distribution centre – a truck we still support and is operational to this very day!
From these humble beginnings, the partnership has grown exponentially. Today, Welfaux is honoured to support over 160 assets nationwide, delivering unparalleled service and maintenance for John Lewis’s extensive materials handling fleet. This collaboration is a testament to the mutual trust and commitment that both companies have nurtured over the decades. The images below offer a nostalgic glimpse into our shared journey, showcasing some of the original truck deals, maintenance contracts, and specialist truck attachment drawings provided by Welfaux to John Lewis. These snapshots are just a small sample of the rich history we hold at our main Toutley Road depot, where a folder brimming with fascinating documents serves as a cherished reminder of our enduring partnership.
As we look back on these memorable moments, we celebrate the strength and longevity of our collaboration with John Lewis, and we eagerly anticipate many more years of mutual support and success.
